A
Letter to Congress Against the Car & Big OIL!
Today
I dropped in the mailbox the following letter addressed to my
Senators, my Representative in the House, President George W.
Bush and Bill Ford, President of the Ford Motor Company. The
letter is basically a declaration of my political stance against
the automobile and Big Oil. Please join me in expressing your
concern. Feel free to use my letter or a variation of it in your
expression. It is time that we let them know that change must
be made, now.
Dear Senator,
I am writing to say that you have failed your constituents
and the generations to come. You have failed us because of
your inability to identify and correct what will be known as
the most devastating creation of our time. I am not referring
to the atomic bomb, guns, drugs or alcohol; I am referring
to the gasoline-guzzling automobile, which aside from war,
has killed and injured more people than any other man-made
creation.
With all of the technological advancements we have made in
the last 100 years, I find it hard to believe that we have
been unable to improve the fuel efficiency, safety and emissions
of these vehicles. It is because of this that I have come to
the conclusion that the issue is not that we cannot make the
automobile more efficient, but that we simply choose not to
because that is what is most profitable.
Despite the fact that automobiles spew carbon dioxide, a known
greenhouse gas, and carbon monoxide, which can kill a man within
minutes; despite the fact that our country is so dependent
on foreign oil that it has become a national security issue,
you have chosen to side with profits rather than with people
and life. For these reasons I say you have failed us. Because
of your failure, I have no choice but to take matters into
my own hands, forced to take drastic measures to protect my
family, future generations, the planet, and myself.
When I look at the automobile, I see gross profiteering by
the Oil industry, the carmakers, the insurance companies, the
media, and the Government, all at the expense of everyone else.
I see the destruction the automobile is causing and I am left
with little choice but to say NO MORE. I, Gary Isse, have sold
my car and vow not to purchase another until there is a viable
and affordable zero emissions vehicle available here in Los
Angeles for me to purchase. I will not give any more of my
hard-earned money to BIG OIL, to international terrorists and
to those whose pockets you are in.
Sincerely,
Gary A. Isse
