The Great American Boycott of 2006 ~ Los Angeles ~ Francisca Porchas

I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Francisca Porchas, a lead organizer with the Labor/Community Strategy Center and the Bus Riders Union's Clean Air, Clean Lungs, Clean Buses Campaign. The Union itself seeks to "promote environmentally sustainable public transportation for the entire population of Los Angeles, on the premise that affordable, efficient, and environmentally sound mass transit is a human right." A recent victory for this campaign was helping to get 2,000 diesel buses in Los Angeles County replaced with 2,000 compressed natural-gas buses.
